The LCM100 Line Carrier Modem sends and receives digital data
over power lines in a facility. It permits full-duplex asynchronous
data transmission over 120V or 240V power lines at data rates
from 0 to 9600 baud. The LCM eliminates costly cable installations
and, without the need for other modems or special equipment,
achieves efficient data rates with significant savings.
Versatile. The LCM is portable and easy to install. The LCM
lets you take a PC, PLC or terminal throughout the office or
plant and provides instant access to other equipment by simply
plugging it into any wall outlet or line connection. For example:
Terminal to computer, Computer to plotter, Phone modem to computer
Configuration. The LCM100 supports three-wire RS232C (other
RS232 control signals are simulated under jumper control) communications.
Two distinct units make up a pair for a complete communications
link— one is attached to the Data Communication Equipment
(computer and the other to the Data Terminal Equipment (CRT,
printer or other peripheral). Each unit is plugged into an AC
receptacle near the communications equipment and the associated
digital data cable plugged into the LCM100 unit.
Range. The LCM100 provides a communication range of up to 5,000
feet (1.52 km). This range is measured through the building’s
electrical wiring.
Applications. Applications include automated materials handling
equipment, stacker cranes, rotating casting tables, electronic
sign control, conveyor belt monitoring and general industrial
data communications.
